Legal Question in Family Law in India

Hi,my friend is going thru a divorce suit he has initiated,his son is about to complete 5 years by March 2016 end,his wife who was not ready to sign the papers for last 1.5 years has suddenly agreed to do the same,is it because she wants to gain his custody based on his age (Less than 5 years,by default?) what should my friend do?
