Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Trinidad and Tobago

my father died leaving his wife and children to occupy a portion of land where each sibling has a house. 4 houses on the property. To our knowledge no deed even exists for the property. My father did not leave a will. He left a document in writing saying that each sibling owns the portion of land their house is own. HELP, do not know how to start to fix this problem.

You need to establish who is the legal owner of the land. Was your father a tenant? Did he pay rent to the owner?

There is an owner for the lands either a private person or the State.

Your father cannot devise portions of land to his children if he is not the legal owner of the land.

Find the owner. Please note the title to the land may be under the Real Property Act so a Certificate of Title exist and not a Deed.
