Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I cosigned on a $3,800 dental loan for a friend. He is no longer able to make his payments. Am I now liable and if so, can I go after the (ex)friend in court?

Yes and yes. The judgment you receive in small claims court would be good for 10 years, and may be renewed for another 10. Collecting immediately might be problematic, however.
