Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Deficiency Judgement on Auto Repossesion

I am being sued along with my exhusband who is primary on auto loan where the vehicle was voluntarily repossesed due to divorce. They sold the vehicle for dirt cheap. They say we owe 6,500. It was in good condition and loan was only 1 1/2 yr old. Am i obligated to pay all if he does not show up in court? Can I insist on agreement to pay half and make payments. Can I agrue the fact that I was trying to catch up 2 late payments but collector refused partial payment in any form making it impossible for me, my ex said he didnt care if repo since he took a vehicle owned clear title only in his name.
