Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My complaint paper was changed. The one I had gotten from arraignment said did willfully and unlawfully and maliciously and purposefully scratch property of another. Now I'm looking at the paper my pd has and now it says deface damage or destroy property. They changed it because the scratch was buffed out for under 400 and so now they are saying all the sudden the car hood is bent. They said nothing about that from the investigating office at the scene ( I have the paper right here ) only said scratches nothing else. Can they do that?

And, so ...?

A little free legal education for you: Charges frequently get updated, amended, changed, added to by the DA, all the way to trial. That's how the system works.

Whatever the charges are, you will need to 'defend' against them in court, not here on a public forum that offers no benefit or help or sympathy to you.. Do it yourself, or hire an experienced criminal defense attorney, like one of us here on this panel, local to your court, to effectively do it for you.
