Legal Question in Health Care Law in California

Pet Owners rights to receive a prescription for medication by other than Vet off

My Vet will not write me a prescription for my pet. He insists I buy the prescripion only from him. I can buy the medication from an online Pet RX co at 1/3 the price! I feel this is extortion. He already charged me for the office visit, blood test & X-rays. Do I have a right to the prescription??

Did you ask your vet the reason why he would not write you a prescription? If he/she does not give you a reasonably logical and acceptable response I guess it will be considered unprofessional and unethical conduct which you can report to the appropriate licensing Board.

As for you having a RIGHT to prescription, I am not sure if you can force the vet to give you one. Good luck.
