Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Land in Deceaseds Name

My family was left property (an empty land parcel) 1987 by a close relative. For some reason the property was never transferred in our name in 1987. The will went through probate and we were given the deed (in the deceaseds name). We are up to date on all property taxes. We need help to put this property in our name. I was told we need a new deed written and to register the transfer with the county. I can not find a title company or an attorney to help with this. Is this something I can do my self. Please help. Thank You

Re: Land in Deceaseds Name

You need to see an attorney. I doubt there was a probate order, for the order would have transferred the title to you.

There may well be an explanation for all of this, but it is best if an attorney who lives near you or in the county where the probate occurred assists you in answering your questions.

I agree, but would add that if there was an Order for Distribution from the probate court, a certified copy of it should be recorded, and that would establish title in the names of the new owners.
