Debt collector has served me

The papers served me indicate to answer for legal reasons I should not pay. What constitutes legal reasons for not paying debt.

There could be many reasons why you should not pay. Have they sued the right person? If so, did they breach the agreement in some fashion? You may be able to assert many defenses. You should consult an attorney and make sure you file a response by the deadline indicated in the papers served on you. If you don't file a response, the plaintiff may be able to obtain a default judgment against you.
