Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Type Your Question Here... I see former speaker of the house Dennis Hassert was in court and found guilty on hush money charges how did he escape child molestation or sexual abuse charges is there a Statute of limitations on sexual abuse cases?

And if so can we reverse those laws and prosecute all who were sexual offenders at any time

Speaker Hastert was only convicted on the financial crimes and not the sexual abuse charges. Apparently there is a time limitation relating to the specific allegations pertaining to him. Every jurisdiction has different time limitations, but in general the most egregious sexual abuse charges have no limitation, or at least that's the case now. Even though a legislature could extend the statute of limitations, it can't do so retroactively and it would only apply to future cases or cases where the limitation has not yet run already.
