Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Kentucky

Did my lawyer rip me off?

I gave my lawyer a large sum of money to help me find a way to get my husband out of prison. He felt that he could prove that he was under duress when he took a plea agreement. Now, our only recourse is to prove that and get him a trial. My lawyer has had my money for some 16 months and has done vertually nothing. He will not return my calls and doesn't make it easy to see him in his office. It is nearly impossible to see him!! I need to know what my options are. I forked over this money still waiting to sign a contract. Please, tell me I do have options!!! Thanks!!

I would file a complaint with your state bar. They will have a procedure for looking into your complaint and determining whether or not your lawyer has treated you unfairly.

Incidentally, it may interest you to know that the greatest number of compllaints to the bar annually concern attorneys who fail to communicate with their clients.
