Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

Crossing the median

I was traveling on a 4 lane road, at about 7:00am on a Saturday, (Very little traffic) separated by a 60 foot wide grass median. I changed lanes and crossed the median to proceed in the other direction. I was stopped by the police and issued two tickets:

1. Unsafe lane change

2. driving the wrong direction on a one way street.

There is no mention on the ticket for crossing the median. I serched Marylands '' Rules of the Road'' and found no law that covered crossing the median.

The fines are for $90. each.

Why was I cited for driving the wrong way and an unsafe lane change?

Should I fight the tickets?

Re: Crossing the median

It is always worth fighting the tickets, simply because if you go to court, you may get no points, lower fines, the cop might not show, etc. However, as far as winning this case, I'm sure the officer will testify to the judge that whatever you did fits into the requirements of those laws and that you broke them. Are you saying you drove across the grass? It is often illegal to make a Uturn and go the other way, especially on the grass, but it is ALSO possible that what this officer charged you with was the wrong type of citation.
