Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

Police Officers

Is it legal for a Police Officer to watch or cruise the parking lot of a bar, to sit on the street side of a bar or frequent the pizzaria in the same building and wait for people to leave, or have a reserve officer working in the bar and notify patrolmen when people are leaving?

Re: Police Officers

It saves money, time, and manpower to police the areas where potential drunk drivers take the road.

Or... do you think drunk drivers should have a sporting chance at the risk of the public?

Or... should bar owners risk Dram Shop Liability by not calling the police when they see an obviously drunk patron refuse a taxi and crawl into his SUV?

Do you think drunks should have an arrest free driving zone around bars.... say a mile radius? Or, how about two?

What would Saint Helen do?

Ans: Walk home!
