Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

left scene of accident

I was in an accident last night, I lost control of my boyfriends car. The accident was about 7 houses away from his, I left the scene af the accident to go tell him. I never went back because he was mad. The police report will say that there was beer in the car. I was not drinking. I was told to call the officer by 6:00 am the next morning. I did, he came over To talk to me & issued me a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident, with an appearance date to go in front of a judge. Do I plead innocent & get a lawyer? What can happen to me? I have never been in an accident before. I've only received one ticket for 10 miles over.

Re: left scene of accident

I would recommend retaining an attorney. It isn't clear from your message what exactly you were ticketed for, but if it is "Failure to stop or identify after a property damage accident", that is a 6 point misdemeanor. An attorney may be able to get that reduced.

You should definitely retain a lawyer. As an attorney may be able to get you a reduction in the points and fine. Further, after speaking to an attorney, you may find that "pleading innocent" to the allegations is not as appealing as you may think.
