Mr. Nimocks did a fine job of covering the worst case scenario.

I'll cover what probably will happen give a few assumptions. Assuming the deceased dog was just a mut and not a show dog, you'll probably pay a fine at most. Of course if the other dog provoked your dog, that would make a difference for your side.

Re: My dog killed another dog.

The simple assault charge appears weak if your dog did not touch or harm the other dog's owner, but a conviction could probably still be had if your dog placed the other dog's owner in imminent fear of his welfare and/or safety. He can also sue you for the damages he sustained (loss of property (dog); negligent and/or intentional infliction of emotional distress; loss of income (if applicable); and other applicable damages). So, your worst case scenario is that you're convicted of a crime and also have to pay money. However, you should consult a lawyer personally so that they can look at ALL facts and circumstances and better advise you.
