Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Collections

I have one account in collections for about $2500. I have been trying to get the account taken care of, but in between, they would call constantly. They said they would settle for that, but I told them I could only do $200 a month. They said it was unacceptable and that they will just return the checks. I told them that is all I can pay, since I have other bills. They said it is a refusal to pay and that they were closing it as that. What should I do?

Re: Collections

If you want a lawyer to assist (and it is a shame that you might need this for such a small amount of money), then please call me. I have helped several people in your situation over the last year.

Re: Collections

Its tough, you could try to get an attorney but if you could afford one, you wouldn't be in this situation. I would just keep trying to work with them or call the original creditor and work it out with them.
