Re: 4 counts of theft us mail

Theft is a serious charge, even if it is petty theft, because a conviction for same will prevent one from obtaining a job for a bank or other financial institution or for employment involving computers and for many other forms of employment.

I would have to know the statutes charged because theft can be a petty offense or a more serious offense. As a petty offense it has a maximum sentence of six months in jail for each offense.

You should hire an attorney.

I agree with Gary's response. Considering it's in municipal court, it sounds like the charges have been downgraded to or are petty disorderly persons offenses. Hire an attorney. There are 4 charges and each carries a max of 6 months in jail and high fines, mandatory fees, etc.

The potential penalties include heavy fines and possibly jail time. Before I could give you a definite answer as to the maximum penalties your son is facing, I would have to see the criminal complaint sheet itself. Anyway you look at it, this is certainly the kind of case where your son needs an experienced criminal defense attorney. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to this in various courts in New Jersey in the past. I would like to discuss this case with you in more detail. Please contact me at your convenience. I never charge for simply talking to a person about a case. Thank you.

This is a very serious offense. I agree that before an attorney can tell you how serious, he/she would need more information. As a former Assistant County Prosecutor, I would be happy to talk to you for free.

Re: 4 counts of theft us mail

Well you've already heard the response from four attorneys so it looks like I'm a little late to impart any advice. However, I do practice in Burlington and would be more than happy to help your son. You can call my office at 732/247/3340 and speak to me about the charges for no cost. Then you can decide the best course of action.

Good luck!
