Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

We had an initial appointment with a mediator but the thousand dollar bill at the end just added to our pile of debt. Have all the papers filled out on my own to file on my own, however my husband now refuses to sign a marital separation agreement that says he'll get 50% of everything. He won't move out, isn't paying enough to support living here right now. I need to get a divorce in the application phase, make a good income, but have so much debt that we live paycheck to paycheck and can not come up with the funds for an attorney. Please advise on how to even find an attorney that can assist me.

You are in the situation that many are in right now. There is no easy solution. You need to come up with some money. Do you have credit cards, something to sell, a friend or family member that will give you something just to start? Also, do you have any equity in the house? That will make it easier for a lawyer to take a risk with you. Call me to discuss at 732/773/2768 to discuss.

You need to proceed with the divorce action in order to bring the matter to an end as soon as possible. Your husband will get no more than is provided in the mediation agreement drawn up

Call me, if you like, to discuss a reasonable fee which is acceptable to you and me.

Unfortunately, you will not qualify for any legal aid program, so you will have to come up with a retainer, as the other attorneys have advised you. If your husband has any substantial assets or income, yopu may get reimbursed part or all of your attorney fees based upon his refusal to sign the negotiated agreement. You can call me if you need more advice. 973/661/3400.
