Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Verbal Abuse by stepmother

Hi I was divorced 11 years ago and my exhusband got residential custody of my children. I have complete contact with both my children and have since the beginning they stay here my daughter has lived with me too a few times. She does not get along with her stepmother. The question is her stepmom verbably abuses her and I am very concerend about this meaning they have even had a fist fight b4. I just got into a huge fight with my ex over this and he is telling me he wants to take me to court for more child support and the reason being is my mother died a few years back I was left just about nothing and he thinks I am rich for one she was my mother not his I have no more to give I lost my house a year ago to forclousure. Can you please advise me on what I need to do my daughter is 17 and I need to have her living with me she is a mess and I love her to death and I don't want this other woman abusing her the way she does.

You need to file a Motion with the court to change residential custody to yourself. It also sounds like counseling may be necessary for your daughter.

An inheritance itself would not cause an increase in child support. If you have income from those assets, that would be used to calculate your support obligation.
