personal property

I have a boat on my property that does not belong to me .How long do I wait before I can get rid of it.I know who it belongs to but he refuses to do anything with it. It has not been used since 1987. I have owned this home since 2003 where the boat is in my yard. please help.

You could write a letter to the owner by certified mail advising him that you will have the boat disposed of if he does not remove it within two weeks after he receives the notice.

You might sue the owner for a reasonable sum of money as rent in small claims court and then have the court officer to execute upon the boat by selling it and giving you your money. The owner of the boat would be there in a flash. Say that you are going to do this in your letter and see how he responds.

Just to add what Mr. Moore said, did you think about calling the police? Depending on the town, they may or may not care, but if they do, it may really speed things up.
