Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

superintendent

i was a superintendent, till 2 weeks ago i was being complimented by the building manager, then last friday i got fired without any reason or notice,i live in a basment apartment (illegal) which i built.

so far i m getting many silly reasons why i got fired, one of them is the porter who is always ''high'' bad mouthed me with my boss.

what are my rights?can they just throw me out my apt?

Re: superintendent

Unfortunately, New York is an employment at will state.

Accordingly, you can be discharged for any reason as long as it is not based on race, age, gender, and the like.

Were you being paid on the books?

If you were then you can apply for unemployment insurance benefits.
