Infant safety denied?
I rent a house in New York state (not in New York City) and my landlord is very strict about changes to the home including holes caused my nails etc. I have a seven month old who is just begining to crawl and his room is on the second floor. I want to install a hardware mounted gate for the top of the stairs. A pressure mounted gate is not advised since it can be toppled. I also want to install window guards specifically in his room and in his play room but my landlord objects to all of this. Is there any type of child safety law that protects my rights to properly protect my children?

You do have a right to 'child-proof' your home. There must be some showing of some damage to the premises for the landlord to have any rights to stop you or for damages.
I am unclear about the gate, but the window guards are 100% ok.
You must understand, he has the right not to renew your lease for almost any reason.
