Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother lived in our apartment for about 30 yrs. She is retired and moved to georgia her lease doesn't expire until april 2007 so my brother took over the lease the landlord sold the house and told us we have 60 days to move out can he legally do that. Then he said that what can he do to make us leave before the lease is up.

Depends on the nature of the lease, the locale of the apartment and whether your brother was living in the apartment or not when he "took over the lease." It could also depend on whether the landlord ever took rent from your brother with the knowledge that he took over the lease.
