Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Non-payment of Rent

I have a tenant in NYC that is moving out next month. She called her bank & put a stop on her last month's rent check. There are no issues with the apartment she is simply not paying the last month's rent. Is this illegal & what are the consequences ?

Re: Non-payment of Rent

You can sue her but you'll preobably end up spending more on legal fees than you can prvoe as damages. Obviously you will not need to return her securuty deposit or the accrued interest.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.

Re: Non-payment of Rent

do you have any deposit from this individual, if so take the money out of there. If the check has bounced you may threaten the tenant with legal action for the money, and if you feel it appropriate you may hire an attorney to take your case to court, or attempt to bring the case yourself in small claims court for restition.

hiring an attorney may not be the best route here because we would probably bill you more than what your rent payment would have been...

Please feel free to contact my office on this or any other future matter. 2127098303
