paid in full -close account

Paid off credit card 6/01/2001 Put on the bottom of the check paid in full-closed out(in the memo)Found out recently the company sold the account to a collection agency Have not even recieved a statement from the main company since paid it off Ihave heard that in Pa. that if you put paid in full and the company cashes the check its paid is this true? Ipaid off what the statement said was the balance,not trying to get away with anything.have my cancelled check and the statement. the collection agency is from virginia and is claiming I owe $700. can they collect it? please help! thanks

This is a fact specific matter, but I agree with Mr. Johns, if this doesn't work, you will need to retain counsel.

Send the collection agency a copy of the cancelled check along with a letter stating that you owe no money on the account and that if they persist in their efforts you may be forced to file suit under the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices Act. I offer free consultations.
