Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

College loan from 12 yrs. ago

What is the statue of limitations on a college loan from 12 years ago. To my knowledge it is not on my credit report, but I recently received notice from a collector that I still owe on this loan. Am I still liable after all these years, and if so what do you suggest I do to limit the amount owed since it has been such a long time.

By Federal statutes, there is no statute of limitations on most student loans, mainly those funded or guaranteed by the Federal government. You can ask the collector for a validation of the debt, and that should tell you if this is such a loan. Please contact us if you have any other questions. Good luck.
