Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Hello,

Awhile back I co-signed a credit card for a friend. He go really bad on drugs and didn't pay on the card. The company then called my house and gave the credit information to my mother who I did not give them permission to give the information out to.Is this a breach of contract on their part. A lawyer hired by the company that bought the debt from the creditor mailed me about the debt. Would that company have the right to try and sue me before they sue my friend who was the main signer on the card? Please get back to me if you can.

When the company called and gave information to your mother, that was illegal. You may have a claim against the company.

If the debt was sold, that is good news for you. Collection agency lawsuits are typically pretty easy to beat. The company can sue you, or you and the other individual, or just the other individual. When that lawsuit arrives, contact a consumer attorney, whether its me or someone else, because a good consumer attorney can beat the agencies most times.
