Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Am i entitled to a 30-day notice to move out??

I'm a student in college right now and i am leasing through a housing agency, they have informed me verbally today(8-2-02) (they will send the letter on the 5th) that i will have to move on the 8th of august 2002. I have no way to move until the following week. but my largest question is, am i entitled to a 30 day notice for me to move out?? if you figure out the days between when they told me in writing and the official move date it would only be 2-3 days notice!! that's barely time to pack. they are relocating me but i have no time (i'm working and going to school) until the following week to move out. is there a law protecting me against this sudden move??? any and all help would be appreciated asap! THanks!

At a minimum you are entitled to a thirty day notice to vacate unless your written lease states otherwise.

Re: Am i entitled to a 30-day notice to move out??

I will assume you have a written lease, that it begins the 1st of the month, and that the term runs past Aug. 31st.

As Mr. Fudor stated, you are entitled to AT LEAST 30 days notice. I want to add, that if your lease runs from the first of the month, a notice to you of the second of August means that you do not have to leave until September 30th. In other words, even if you have a month to month lease, if it begins the first of each month, for them to ask you to be out by Aug. 31st, they would have to give you proper notice (ie - in writing) by July 31st. Notice on Aug. 1st, means you can not be compelled to leave before September 30th.

I'd "offer" to leave early, in return for a break in rent for August, and a full return of your deposit. Otherwise, I'd tell them I was staying until September 30th (assuming your lease term was expected to run past August 31st)

Good luck.
