Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Child Custody

I have been in a relationship for about seven years, but never married. There is a six year old child involved. I just wanted to know what the father can or cannot do regarding our daughter. He does not pay any child support. I am not sure if it would be best for me to get legal custody of our daughter since she lives with me. I just really do not know what to do and just wanting to do the right thing for my daughter.

Thank You

Re: Child Custody

Generally, both parents have equal access and rights to a minor child, absent a court order to the contrary. If you need financial assistance in order to support the minor child please consider contacting your local department of social services. Please speak with an attorney in your local area to explore custody options.
