Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

collection agency after me

I received a call from a collection agency in reguards to a debt that is my grandmothers. I explained that i live in another city, not with my grandmother, because of school and only used her mailing address briefly. I also let them know that my grandmother was in a nursing home with ealy stages of alzheimers with no one taking care of her finances, my parents live in mexico. They asked me if I had a car financed with her as a cosigner. at this point i hung up with them. My question is because my grandmother is a cosigner on my car can the collector have a lien or take away my car ?

Re: collection agency after me

No...and before you give info to collectors, get their names, addresses, phone #s before talking..and if it is for your grandmother..tell them nothing..but they are committing violations of the fair debt collection act

This might be a violation of the FDCA. If it is a violation, you might be able to get them to stop and other remedies with the assistance of an attorney. As such, if my office can be of any assistance please contact my office manger Mr. Ed Smith ([email protected]).
