Legal Question in Family Law in Nigeria
Good day. My husband resigned from his job in 2013 and travelled to South Africa for 3 years and since then i have been the one overseeing every financial responsibility of my children and I. He came back after 3 years and also travelled to Kenyan since February 2017 still not taking responsibility for us. Now he wants a divorce to enable him marry another lady he met in Kenyan and he also said he will take custody of the 2 children we both have. he has not for once sent money for their upkeep let alone their fees, rent etc. He is a music minister who travels from one country, state ... and i need advice cos i cant leave my kids with a strange woman who also ministers along with him. please what should i do?

Living apart for 2 years and above is a valid ground for divorce in Nigeria. Once he files the divorce petition and serves it on you, you can engage the services of a lawyer to pray the court for custody of the children and maintenance that is if you are not challenging the dissolution. More often than not, custody of children of tender years is granted to the mother. If you need further clarification or assistance, feel free to contact me on rotimi.ogunlade@gmail. com
