Legal Question in Family Law in India
Marriage between 3rd cousins
I am in love with my 3rd cousin ( Great Grand fathers, Brother ,Son , Son ,Daughter )My Dad and His dad are 2nd Cousins.
I proposed her a few weeks back and she also had similar feelings for me since many years. I have a few doubts that I would like to clarify :
1. Are these kinds of marriages legal ? I did go through the hindu marriage act before writing this e-mail to you. Our family has no traditional customs of marrying cousins. But, still, someone suggested me that there is something called a ''special marriage act'' in which such marriages turn legal. Is it true?
2. Are such marriages socially acceptable ?? Will it be easy enough to convince the families about such a relationship that exists between us ?
Will they happily accept such marriages ?
3. I've heard about some genetic problems in such marriages. But, i've heard that these things are a matter of chance and the child may or may not be handicapped. Can this be analysed before delivery so that the child can be aborted if the need arises ??
Both of us are hindus.
