Legal Question in Business Law in California
advertisement fraud
I had a small business (general partnership). Last year i advertised with phone book company with the statement that if i go out of business they will prepare an out of business form and i wouldbe exempt from payments. I shut down my business and published in the newspaper and disconnected the phone line. Now a collection agency is calling and threatining me with a lawsuit which accrued interest while i was expecting them to follow their words. i say that i am decieved and i don't owe them anything based on the statement that i am exempt because i am out of business. There is no signed contract either. Please advise me
thank you

Re: advertisement fraud
You've stated your defense. If they sue you anyway, that's what you tell the court.
