i have been unavailable to work on Saturdays due to my husband working(I work when my husband is home to watch our 2 1/2 year old son. I work in retail and i changed my availabilityat least 8 months ago.And that was ok with my manager. Now they have posted a blackout date list for requesting off and a couple of thoses dates happenes to be a saturday. I reminded my manager that I don't work on saturdays and that I'm not requesting it off i just can't work. She said that if i don't show up i will be written up or fired. Is this legal

Legal? Yes. Fair? No. Try to work it out with HR and mgmt, go up the corporate chain, and make sure you adequately explain your need to care for family. It 'might' help to have an attorney represent you, but I wouldn't encourage that because of the adverse reactions that would create for you.
