Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
My brother in law passed away. He owned an unregistered handgun of unknown origin. My 22 year old step son wants it. Are there any potential legal issues if this is to be passed on to him?

Yes. Handguns are required to be registered with the California Department of Justice. Additionally, handgun transfers must be done through a licensed gun dealer.
