Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
My future sister was beat-up by crazy women.
My future sister-in-law,M, was beaten up by 3 women yesterday. These women are M's friend's wife, her mother, and sister, M and her friend, H, are friends and they are not intimately involved but the 3 women thought that H was having an affair with M. They came over yesterday and M, thinking that she could verbally explain the misunderstanding, let them in. M was slapped, kicked, stepped on, scratched, and choked. They took her apartment keys, some legal documents, and $300. Because H lend M money, they claimed that it was their right to take it. They also threatened her life saying that they know some gangs in LA and are considering taking M out. M is new to the country and does not know any better. She got scared and didn't call the police. I took her to the station and filed a report. We currently have phone number for H who has names and contacts for all 3 women. What can I do so that these crazy psycos are sent to jail ASAP??? M has visible injuries as well as emotional injuries.
Look forward to your advice soon. Thanks

Call the police. I assume they aren't exactly upstanding wealthy members of society, so there is no point wasting money on a civil lawsuit.

She can obtain a restraining order against these women. This restraining order would make it a misdemenanor to come within 300 yards of your future sister. The police may be able to provide a short term restraining order pending her petition to the court for a restraining order. The court should have a restraining order help center that will help her prepare the petitione for a restraining order.

You have already done the most important thing -- getting M to file a police report. If you don't hear from the police within a day or two, make some follow-up calls. If the facts are as you say, the police and the D.A. will be eager to pursue M's assailants.
