Legal Question in Elder Law in California

conservatorship

wife and cousins fighting over conservatorship of my dad no one informed me or my brother of his illness or his need for a consevator we feel he is being taken advantege of and would like to have a nuetral appointed his attorneys advised me i need to have representation to be heard when he is going for his compentancey hearing and mey be able to hire one on a contingancy otherwise we have no say as to whatbecomes of our dad our cousins are isolating our dad and telling him lies about me so i can't talk to him or his grandchildren either. do you have any advice

You don't need an attorney to appear and object, but the court is going to require that you follow the court rules and file objections that meet the court format. You can look through the court file to get an idea of how objections are formatted, but ultimately it may be easier to simply hire an attorney to help you.

You were supposed to be served notice of the legal proceedings, to allow you to have a say in the outcome. You should immediately file your paperwork with the court, if you wish to contest their control, asking instead for another closer family member or a neutral to be appointed.
