Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have 80% custody of my two children, ages 6 and 3. My wife left me 3yrs ago with the two kids. She is making as much money as I am because she has a good career. There hasn't been a child support case necessarily. We each received a notice in the mail and I think I created a login on the child support website, but there was no calculation made. Am I legally allowed to file for back child support for the time that has passed? If so, how long am I able to claim?

You can only claim back to the date you file a request for a support order.
