adult adoption

I live in NZ but my niece is studying in Fiji at present. She is 20 years old and wants me and my husband of one year to adopt her. We are both in our 50s and we want to please her. Her mother died when she was 2years old. raised by her grandmother with my financial help. regards

What is your country of citizenship, and is that the same country you are attempting to get your niece citizenship? Or in the alternative, are you simply trying to adopt her and you have the same citizenship?

you can adopt her but you would not be able to sponsor her for permanent residency in the USA.

Under New Zealand law you cannot adopt someone 20 years old or over.
