Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
harassment from ex-wife after divorce
I had gone through a painful divorce, my ex-wife and her family in the US had harassed me at work and home during the divorce proceedings.(around 2001 jan to june time frame). Its been almost a year since I have gotten a divorce, not being able to do anything to me here, my ex-wife and family are harassing my parents in India by
lodging all sorts of false complaints against me in India
completely misrepresenting the factual events that happenned in the US; After considering all options, the only possible solution to my issue seems to be filing a civil harassment suite against my ex-wife (who is currently residing in the US). I would really appreciate if someone can point to a competent legal counsel in this regards
(civil litigation plus some immigration). Any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: harassment from ex-wife after divorce
If she and her family are in California, then a lawsuit can be filed here, even though conduct reaches to India. A logistical problem would be in proving what occurs in India. It is possible that depositions would have to be taken there, or witnesses brought to the US. If you are seriously interested, then hire an attorney in the area they live, that's where it would be filed. Otherwise, travel expenses of the attorney would be substantial. If they live near Southern California, contact me.

As stated by other posted replies, there are some logistical problems with evidence of defamation and other harassment in India. There are a variety of tort claims that you may or may not have, which you could bring against your ex-wife; however, this is hard to assess without further information.
