10.00 is all I could afford. The company sent the check
back stating the $10.00 was not acceptable. But! at least
I sent something.I had called the legal aid for the Seniors

You have to continue to try and work it out with them. Surely, a creditor wants to be paid rather than having to chase you. If you cooperate and work out a payment plan, then, should be no problem. If no one returns calls, send payments certified mail with the explanation and request to make payments in $10 per month increments. Make sure to write at the bottom of the letter, "If you do not respond, I will assume that you agree with the foregoing and shall make payments in the amount of $10.00/month until the total sum is paid. If you do not agree with the foregoing, please contact me immediately." Try that. Good luck and thanks for inquiring.

Keep trying the center.

Collectors can sure get pushy. It's their job. Nevertheless, they should be willing to take your money. Besides, even if they filed a lawsuit against you, they wouldn't be able to collect much if $5 is all you have to your name. The Center should be able to help. Give them some time. The summer heat has sent some people packing -- to the beach! Good luck.
