Legal Question in Employment Law in California

calling out

is it against the law for my boss at work to notify me that i have no choice in the matter regarding me calling off. I missed the funeral of a family member becuase my boss said that it was unacceptable for me to call out and that I was needed there. I am paid hourly and I have no ''on call'' staus with this employer.

Illegal? No.

If the company policy guaranteed you leave rights, then it was wrong and you could complain.
