Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I'm an employee at a large retail store in California were our wages are based on commission. They always have these promotions with coupons and discounts that directly affect our pay. Is it legal for them use coupons or promotion where we have to lose money and not get compensated?

Unless your employer promised you a commission on full retail prices, they are entitled to sell their merchandise for whatever they can get for it, and pay you commission on that amount. In theory you should be making more on increased sales from these promotions, than you would if they stuck to a higher price and sold less items. That is what they are counting on for their profit. If it's not working out that way, you probably should start looking for a new job. Since, if you and they are losing money on the promotions, they won't be in business much longer.

If you are complaining about your commission being computed upon a lower sale price, you are out of luck.
