Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was fired for being late to work a 8th time over a 12 month period. I had signed paperwork stating that a 8th tardy would result in termination , so I was aware of the ramifications, 4 of my tardys were for being only 3 or 4 minutes late. What my employer doesnt know is that I have a child that suffers from ADHD and sometimes when I have to leave him in the care of others before work(I am a single father) it becomes a difficult time consuming process that sometimes would cause me to be late. My problem is that i was denied unemployment benefits under unemployment ins. code 1256. I have worked for 23 years and never filed a claim for unemployment before. Is there anything I can do?

You can file an appeal of the denial with EDD, and argue your case to the hearing officer. .
