Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have been working at a hotel as a seasonal maid in California and my wrist has been hurting so I went to a doctor and they gave me a lite duty note. And my work said they have no hours for me for lite duty and I could come back when it feels better. I just went into my work to get a check from a week before and told my manager that I could come back at the beginning of the year. And she said infront of everyone " that's if you still have a job" So I want to know is it illegal to let me go/fire me after they said I could come back since I had a doctors note
