Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Judgment

I was a co-tenant on a lease. I moved to Indiana unexpectedly, and was left with one months rent. The landlord filed a small claims case against me and a judgment was filed. I was never served with a notice of a court date and was unaware of this judgment for several years. I want to assume responsibilty and pay this debt, but is there any way out of the interest?

Since you have now known about the judgment for several years, it probably is too late to set it aside. But the landlord has also probably given the matter up as being uncollectable. Contact the landlord without giving him an address [if you want , I will forward your letter to him in a new envelope and then e-mail you with the results] and says why you did not pay the last month, you were never seved but you would like to pay off the debt but not the interest, if he says no then you will not pay him the principal either for his dismissing the judgment in full. To do this so that I do not have to reveal your address, it is best you retain me as your attorney in this matter with our agreement being that I will forward the letter to him and tell you the results, but not do anything beyond that. If you wanted me to do more work, I wouldhave to charge you at my rate of $100 per hour.
