Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Car vandalism in school parking lot

I am a high school student and my car was vandalized in the school parking lot. The damage to my car was estimated to be over $1000. Is it possible to seek damages from the school district? A waiver of liability was signed upon purchase of a parking permit to use the school facilities, but I feel that it is the school's responsibility to provide adequate security to deter any acts of vandalism and theft. During school hours campus security is nowhere near the parking lots. Please advise, thanks in advance!

Re: Car vandalism in school parking lot

Since you signed a waiver, there is essentially no chance you can win a judgment against the district. Even without the waiver, parking lot owners are generally not liable for damage to parked cars caused by third parties. On top of that, lawsuits against public entities like school districts are limited by a variety of laws which would not apply to similar cases against private entities.
