Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Car Ownership
My daughter recently purchased a new car. My daughter paid half and I paid half. The title and registration are only under her name. Do I have a 50% ownership interest in the car?

Not unless your name is on title.

Re: Car Ownership
I think there is a presumption that you made a gift of the half interest, but the presumption is rebuttable if you have evidence that no gift was intended, such as some kind of written agreement.
If the relationship between the two of you were not so close, i.e. if the other party was a cousin or in-law, there wouldn't be such a presumption of intent to make a gift, and you would be held to have a beneficial one-half interest.
