With the exception of a mechanic's lien [for work done on the subject house], a lien can not be imposed without having a judgment first.

Attorney Shers is correct. The single-best thing you can do to collect past-due wages is contact the Employment Development Department. EDD are bulldogs when it comes to protecting employees, and they heavily favor employees in employer/employee disputes. They have all kinds of tools they can use to get you paid, and best of all, they are a free service to you. Call your nearest EDD office, and file a complaint for wages earned but not paid.

Nice try. Not unless you file a civil suit and get a judgment against him personally. File your wage claim with the Labor Commissioner. Feel free to contact me if you want legal help in that case.
