Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

How do I go about sueing someone who owes me $20,000. I have an iou notorized. then if the judge rules in my favor how do I go about placing a lein on her home? This is all she has.

You file a complaint in superior court, limited jurisdiction. If you obtain a judgment, you can record the judgment with the county recorder where the property is situated. That becomes a lien against the property.
