Legal Question in Business Law in Connecticut

Unauthorized Use Of Logo

I created a LOGO for a Community TV Station and they are not responding to my request for payment of this logo. This logo is being used on their website, office stationary, props, hats, tee-shirts, and television. They are not acknowledging my attempts via email and registered mail. My logo has a date/time stamp. I have the original file, they were given a .gif file. I have not registered this file for copyright protection. Please kindly advise.

Thank you so very much.

Re: Unauthorized Use Of Logo

I think a certified letter to them describing your experience and demanding payment is best.

Re: Unauthorized Use Of Logo

Retain an attorney specializing in copyright or intellectual property law. Also, consider whether further pursuit of payment is the best, most productive endeavor for you. The station may choose to discontinue the use, or materially modify the logo. I believe, if you can document production of the logo, your copyright is automatic. You then must document serving Notice on the station to cease and desist using the copyrighted material without permission. However, it may be better to secure an independent appraisal of the value of such a logao, and based upon suc value consider donating it to the station (assuming it to be a 501(c)(3) entity), taking charitable contribution for tax purposes, and receiving some advertising or acknowledgment from the station for some reasonable period of time, to-wit: "Our new station logo is compliments of (your company's name and blurb).
